We have been made aware of fraudulent websites pretending to be the British Council IELTS registration sites. Please be advised that they are not associated with us in any form. We are also not responsible for the content available on these websites.
To ensure your details are safe, please only book your test by clicking on the registration link here on this site or on the TakeIELTS website.
Before you enter your personal details, please check that you are using our secure online registration system. You can do this by making sure the website address starts with “https://”. In addition fraudulent sites may use incorrect spellings in the website address, so check that “British Council” is spelt correctly.

To register, simply follow the steps below:
1) Read the information for candidates
Download and read the Information for Candidates (PDF 933 kb). It contains important information about the test format, the question types and the test results. Please note that IELTS is not recommended for candidates under the age of 16.
2) Decide which version of the test is right for you
There are two versions of the IELTS test:

3) Check the IELTS test dates
There are a limited number of places for all our IELTS test sessions. To make sure you get a place, we recommend that you register two months before your chosen test date. Of course, places may be available after this date. You can use our Online Registration System to find up-to-date information about test dates and availability.
Please note: Your Listening, Reading and Writing test will be completed on the same day. Your Speaking test may be offered on the same day, or up to a week before or after your main test day. You will receive notification in advance if your Speaking test is before Listening, Reading and Writing test day.
4) Register online
Use our Online Registration System to book your place on the test.
Please ensure you are able to provide the documents in step 5 and are able to pay in cash at the British Council Office.
5) Payment options
OPTION 1- You can visit any of Nabil Bank's branches/counters in our test locations (Butwal, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Bhairawa, Nepalgunj, Birtamode, Pokhara) from 15 June and in Kathmandu (Teendhara, Lalitpur, Kaushaltar, Maharajgunj, New Road, Naya Baneshwar, Kantipath, Halchowk or Balaju, Kantipath) from 18 June to make your IELTS payment.
Follow the process below for your payment through Nabil bank:
Step 1: Please fill the correct deposit slip. (Sample available in the download section below)
Step 2: Once you have filled the deposit slip please check that the details that you have filled are correct. Incomplete deposit slips will not be accepted.
Step 3: Deposit the money along with the deposit slip at the payment collection counter.
Step 4: The bank will give you back the deposit slip. You can also scan the deposit slip along with the copy of your passport and send this to Payment@britishcouncil.org
Step 5: Once British Council has received the deposit slip (step 4) you will receive an email confirming that payment is received and that your test date is confirmed. Confirmation of test venue will be provided 5 days before the test date by email to the email address provided at the time of registration.
OPTION 2 - You can make your payments through any of the insitutions registered with British Council for IELTS registration such as members of ECAN, IERIN, FECON, EEC-Nepal, Dolphin Education Consultancy, Pradhan International, Vivid Care Services, RTC English and English for All. If you are registering through consultancy, please provide your personal e-mail id, date of birth and mobile number to the educational consultancy. Details are required to communicate with you about the venue details.
OPTION 3 - You can make your payment at the cash counter of British Council in Lainchaur (opening hours: 9:00 to 2:00 Monday to Friday, lunch break: 12:30 – 1:15). If you are making the payment at our office counter, make sure that you submit the copy of payment slip at Customer Services Desk for confirmed registration.
Please note that British Council IELTS has followed standardised process in order to maintain quality of the test. If you have any concerns or want to report any issues, write to email@example.com with your details and we will get back to you on this.
6) Complete registration
We need to receive all documents within six working days of your online registration. Unfortunately, if we do not receive documents(payment slip) within six working days your application will be cancelled.
We cannot process incomplete applications, so please make sure you have sent us all the necessary information.
7) After you register
After registering you will receive an automatic email with your access codes to the free online course: Road to IELTS
Please Note: Wrist watches are not allowed inside the exam hall including during your Speaking Test.
IELTS is designed to be a fair test and your English language ability will be assessed objectively, regardless of any special needs that you may have.
We can help you with any special arrangements you require for your test. For example, we offer support for people with visual impairments, hearing difficulties and dyslexia.
Please contact us three months in advance of your test date to find out how you can apply for special arrangements.
Refunds and Test Date Transfer
- Any candidates who wish to reschedule or cancel the test must do so 5 weeks before the exam date. No requests will be entertained after that deadline.
- You must complete and submit Refund and / or Test day transfer form to our customer service desk.
- In the case of rescheduling the candidate will only be allotted a new seat and date upon availability.
- Candidates are required to pay administration fees of NPR 4560 both in case of refund and test date transfer once the request is approved.
- If the refund is approved and you wish someone else to collect the refund amount for you, then you can authorise someone to collect the refund amount on your behalf with a signed authorisation letter giving this person’s name and ID number. The person must carry the mentioned ID while collecting.
