The Mathagadhi Rural Municipality organised a Social Action Project exhibition on 19 June 2026 under the Quality Education, Quality Schools (QEQS), a partnership project with the British Council, where 25 schools participated and presented their projects through poster presentations. There were 17 secondary schools and eight primary schools that worked on social issues like gender-based violence, community cleaning, reducing plastic use, saving, menstrual hygiene and other related topics.
With the technical support of the British Council for project development and student leadership, and seed funding from the rural municipality, the participating schools designed and implemented Social Action Projects (SAP). The exhibition showcased the outcomes of the student-led projects.
Many communities have become more aware of social issues and are implementing the lessons learned from the projects. Shree Bal Bikash Basic School in Bahadurpur of the rural municipality worked on a plastic-free community project in 2023, and the community is continuing to reduce plastic use and voluntarily clean the surroundings on a monthly rotation.
Similarly, Dharadevi Secondary School worked on the theme of gender-based violence; the school reported a significant reduction in child marriage, polygamy, violence related to accusations of witchcraft, and other forms of domestic violence due to the awareness-raising activities taken under the SAP. The students carried out door-to-door visits, organised rallies and performed street dramas for the sensitisation.
Shree Adarsha Basic School in Chidipani implemented an awareness-raising and cleanliness project. There was a lack of basic facilities in the school before the project, as the school grounds were open and cattle frequently grazed there; the compound was often dirty and poorly maintained. Under the SAP project, the school was able to fence the compound and establish an effective waste management system. Now the school compound has a garden, dustbins and a clean playground.
The exhibition was attended by the representatives of the Rural Municipality and the participating schools. The objective of the exhibition was to provide a platform for schools to share and showcase their projects for promoting peer learning and the exchange of good practices. The participating schools were awarded ‘Safeguarding code of conduct boards’ to encourage them to maintain a safe environment in both the school and the wider community.
