When students of grade 8 and 9 of Paragon Academy in Surunga, Jhapa district had to plan for Social Action Project, the student council came together and shared how Surunga VDC needed zebra crossing to minimize road safety. With wide stretches of road around and heavy motors speeding up every other minute of the day, the students felt necessary to raise concerns related to road safety. They collected information on road safety, printed brochures and went door to door to spread the awareness. They invited local traffic authority to support them in the initiative and took approval of painting zebra crossing around the school area, nearby the highway. The students then joined hands in creating diversion for motorists and painted zebra crossing on their own. The students enunciates the same notion, “This is a beginning. It was a great learning process for us as well and there is so much to be done around road safety.”
